Solar Storm In Progress
It is 14:50 UTC on January 24, 2012 as I write this. The strongest solar radiation storm since 2005 is in progress.
Surely, this storm is bound to disturb more than a few molecules in our atmosphere.
Apart from spectacular auroras, let's see what short, medium and long term effects this storm of magnitude S3 will have on our weather patterns and climate.

About Climate And Oceans
More food for thought about climate change and its likely causes.
"We want to have a system to describe the actual ocean currents because they transport heat and influence climate". (Roger Haagmans)
Three things stand out here.
1. Oceans influence climate.
2. We still know very little about ocean currents and, consequently, about dynamic heat distribution in oceans. Hence the ongoing research.
The quote is an excerpt from an article published in NewScientist magazine, April 9 2011, p.7.
3. The article does not mention how the oceans are heated.
The scientist quoted is Roger Haagmans, mission scientist for the European Space Agency's Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE).

A New Report On Climate Models
New Scientist Magazine has published a Special Report on "The Truth About Climate Models" in its January 15-21, 2011 issue.
I will read it and translate it in layman's terms, if need be. We all need to understand the power and limits of such numerical models.

Warmer Oceans Caused Floods
Brian Rolestone, one of Australia's Bureau of Meteorology senior forecasters, revealed in an interview on Wednesday 12 2011 that abnormally high ocean surface temperatures were the source of moisture and heat energy that fuelled the unprecedented floods in Queensland.
Rolestone explained that even as far back as last winter, temperatures over the Indian Ocean to the north, up towards Indonesia, Java, and over the Pacific Ocean east of Australia, were well above average.

Hopefully, oceanologists will some day be able to tell us *why* the the Indian and Pacific oceans have warmed up so.
For the moment, and until that void of vital information is filled by oceanologists, many continue to believe that man is responsible for the warmer atmosphere ...

The IPCC Recants
Read in an article titled "The sun joins the climate club", written by Michael Marshal and published in the September 25 2010 edition of the New Scientist Magazine.
"The next report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), due in 2013, will include solar effects in its models.
Suddenly, man is not considered to be the main agent of climate change!
A refreshingly more realistic and welcome change of attitude.

At 06:30 AM NDT... the remains of post-tropical storm Igor was located near latitude 54.7 N and longitude 50.0 W... about 295 nautical miles or 550 km northeast of St Anthony NL.

Global Warming IPCC Report Flawed
According to a new study by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL), parts of the last report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) had a tendency to highlight worst-case scenarios.
Dutch investigators found several judgments that were "misleading" and appeared to have no firm research basis.
