Long Term Weather Forecast
For Canada

Here is where you can get the latest and official long term weather forecast issued by Environment Canada for all Canadian provinces and territories.

In Canada, these are called "extended forecasts" because they cover the five days beyond the regular 48 hour forecast covering days 1 and 2.

Thus, the public always has a seven (7) day weather forecast at its disposal.

Here is a bit of "trivia". The portion of the regular forecast covering the days beyond the first 48 hours (first two days) used to be called an "outlook" and only covered three days. Thus the weather bulletins used to cover a total of five days.

The change occurred some time in the '80s under pressure from Canadians living near the US border who were constantly exposed to the "15 day forecast" issued by the US National Weather Service.

The "extended" portion (for days 3 to 7) of the Canadian weather forecast is systematically updated in late afternoon, each day. However, an amendment may be issued at any time if new information on the atmosphere - previously not available - indicates that the weather conditions will be significantly different from what was previously forecast.

To access Canada's long range weather forecasts below:

  1. Select the URL (Internet address) of the extended weather forecast you want (below).

  2. Copy & paste it in the address field of your Web browser. (Make sure you do not copy spaces in front or after the string of characters).

NOTE: If you do not want to bother with the "copy and paste" method described above - which takes you directly to your chosen forecast - you will find "Extended Forecasts" for all Canadian provinces and territories here.
